Our work in digital inclusion aspires to increase not only access to technology (such as devices) and internet (such as broadband connections and wifi), but also to maximize individual’s skills and knowledge to be able to utilize that technology. The Lyles Lab partners with local organizations in San Francisco advocate for digital inclusion, as well as studies the effects that digital inclusion can have on other aspects of people's lives, such as self-confidence and social isolation.
Op-ed: Tackling Digital Inequality in the Tech Capital of the World
Dr. Lyles explores the technology disparities that still exist in San Francisco and the United States and advocates for community-based organizations that help to bridge this divide.
The Tech Allies Project
The Tech Allies Project helps isolated seniors in San Francisco gain access to both the internet and technology. The program supplies the participants with an ipad as well as wifi for their home. They are also paired with a buddy who comes by weekly to teach the participant how to use these new tools.
